The Art of Introspection – Self-Knowledge, Awareness, and Tools for Transformation

The cornerstone of all spiritual growth and psychological healing comes through the motto “know thyself” as attaining deeper forms of self-awareness that brings realization and insights into your true nature and why your life is the way it is. The whole basis of healing in the psychological sense comes naturally when we bring what’s working to create in our lives at an unconscious level into the light of awareness and we “own it” instead of denying or attempting to somehow justify or glorify it. To be empowered in your own life only comes through gaining knowledge of yourself in terms of both your conscious and unconscious tendencies and the success or failing that result from them. The only thing we truly have the power to change in our life is ourselves. All transformation comes only by way of self-awareness that brings deeper realizations around how it is that we have created ourselves and our life to be the way it is.

Many of us spend our whole life focused primarily on other people and what it is we imagine they’re “doing to us”, instead of forming awareness around ourselves, our own characteristics, and what part it is we play in co-creating our own life experiences. Like all ideas this one exists as a form of paradox born and maintained out of a sense of separation and detachment from our own power to create in our life. We can spend the better part of our life trying to figure out how to “change others” or by forming the perception that others are the ones responsible for why we’re the way we are and why our life has formed the way it has without realizing that both our “self” and our “life” are virtually the same thing, and in order to change one we have to work by way of the other.

This idea is compounded further by the idea of what it means to be “selfish” as opposed to “selfless”, and that our “faults” and “weaknesses” are something that’s usually pointed out by others, or is only known through the opinion of others. In our modern day society we’ve made the idea of “self-perfection” out to be a dirty word because we base it on a form of judgment that’s imposed on us by others as their perception of us, rather than on our own ability to observe and closely examine our own tendencies in any situation. One of the key practices in life comes through our ability to determine our own faults and destructive tendencies and then take the measures necessary to correct ourselves.

The idea of “self-perfection” comes by whatever we deem to be the best version of ourselves and then commit to achieving by transforming our weaknesses into strengths. It comes by consciously acting to develop ourselves to be the best we can be. We take responsibility for ourselves instead of blaming our self-destructive tendencies on others. We form an “ideal” for our own development then undergo the process of self-transformation from a semi-unconscious state of being to a primarily conscious and aware state of being. Perfection comes through consistent growth and by developing ourselves in an intentional way in order to create the type of experiences we want to have. It’s only by fully recognizing our own faults that we have the foundation necessary for using our higher powers of choice, will, and realization in order to transform them into our best traits.

All of what we call “higher knowledge” comes as comprehension of Universal Laws to the extent of being able to apply them at the practical level in order to heal and step into our power as our own creator. All Universal Laws (of mind and spirit) form a direct correspondence and work harmoniously to create within the material world through Natural Laws. When we work by way of law, we create in what seems like an effortless manner as a synchronized flow of correlated events, and when we fail to understand and work by way of law, we counteract ourselves and create a constant feeling of hardship and self-sabotage. The material world only serves as a “stage” for us to create ourselves by how we enter into relationship with it. It’s a form of school where we can practice our ability to create until we can do it in an accurate and consistent way.

Introspection and Objective Self-Observation

The most primary law there is, the one that everything else is based on and rises naturally out of as a growth process, is what’s called the “all in One” Law, or in Sacred Geometry the Law of the Monad. This law basically demonstrates that all of reality is a unified whole, and that the “self” and the “reality of the self” are actually the same thing. One systematically produces the other, and vice versa. What we perceive as a separation between our self and another is actually a very fundamental illusion that deceives us in the most basic sense of the idea. It’s “who we are” in terms of “how we’re being” that determines how we “perceive” ourselves in relation to and comparison with others. Our outer perception of others and the world and our perception of our self are complementary opposites of each other and provide us with a mirror into the hidden aspects of our soul. Our outer reality only changes as a direct reflection of our inner self. As we change internally, our life changes to the exact same degree.

One of the most valuable and fundamental spiritual practices there are is the practice of self-observation and the objective examination of our own characteristics and the tendencies that result from them. We have to cultivate the ability to look inward in all situations in order to see what our own characteristics and behaviors are, and how it is that they serve to influence and actively create in the situation. We take an attitude of observing any situation in a way that allows us to see and form realizations around our own negative and destructive characteristics.

As we gain realization into our own unconscious behaviors and what they cause, it’s important to record them in a diary or notebook, because like all realizations that come through a form of meditation and introspection, they’re fleeting and you may not be able to remember them later. Awareness is the key to transformation, and the more defined our awareness is around something, the more immediate and powerful the transformation is. As you write down realizations about yourself in the moment when they’re happening, you record them so you can continue to reflect on them later. As you begin writing and defining them with detailed descriptions the deeper you go and the more pronounced your realizations become. As you define your character flaws and weaknesses in order to gain clarity around them, you simultaneously transform them through the realizations they bring.

This diary or personal notebook is your own to use and you should never, under any circumstances show or discuss it with anyone else. This is your own private tool for developing yourself. The only thing that goes in it is your own ideas for yourself. All self-development and healing is something we do to and for ourselves. These observations about your own character provide you with the knowledge you need in order to begin healing your own unproductive tendencies and develop your weaknesses into strengths. The foundation for self-mastery comes through self-control and your intrinsic ability to discipline yourself in order to implement new ways of being and create in new ways as a result.

The art of objective self-observation requires you to be frank and honest with yourself in realizing your poor character traits, moral weaknesses, shortcomings, habits, failings, passions, and compulsive urges. You’re not engaging in “criticizing” yourself because of them, but simply opening your mind to honest self-evaluation and recognizing your part in creating the events of your own life. You have to resist the urge to justify your right to be that way, or to try and glorify your failings and shortcomings somehow by the story you tell yourself about them. You remove your focus completely from what other people are saying or doing that’s causing you to be the way you are, and place all of your attention on what’s happening inside of you, what characteristics are brought out in you, and how you behave as a result. You refrain from the natural tendency to build an illusion around whatever it is you don’t want to see about yourself, and witness your life without attachments of any kind.

Practice

To start this process, relax in a private environment and reflect back on yourself in different situations that didn’t go very well or that caused you pain and suffering somehow, and simply contemplate them. Replay what happened while focusing inward on how it made you feel and how you became as a result. How were you influenced by another person’s behavior towards you? Ask yourself what your part was in creating it? What role did you play in producing whatever resulted? What did the situation act to bring out in you that caused you to react the way you did? Analyze the experience by replaying how it happened in a step-by-step way while only focusing on “you” and what part you played in co-creating the outcome. Make detailed notes on all of your own errors, inappropriate behavior, and shortcomings, while continuously resisting the need to explain and justify your right to be that way by making it the other person’s fault. Make notes of even the smallest and most insignificant details in order to see yourself clearly.

As you make notes, meditate deeply on them as a means of penetrating deeply into your own soul. Realization is the most primary way we have of “transforming” things. All healing in the psychological sense comes through self-awareness that brings self-realization as to your own character. Constant self-observation and evaluation is the most important part of self-development. This is the most important step in preparing for initiation, achieving inner balance, and engaging willfully in the process of ascension. As we realize and resolve our own character flaws and destructive tendencies, we make a constant ascent towards a higher level of consciousness, and master our ability to create.

You can review any past event that had a strong impact on you or served as a turning point in your life, as well as how relationships were established and evolved through the course of time. You can also form a daily practice where at the end of every day, you sit quietly and reflect back on the main events of the day, and review how things transpired and turned out, and what your part was in co-creating them. You can examine your own attitude and behavior to see what was productive and went the way you wanted it to, and what didn’t. As you examine your own behavior, you can realize where your flaws were and actively choose what you would have liked to have done instead.

As you realize what you could have done differently to produce a more desirable outcome, you can replay the event in your mind while employing different qualities and behaviors. You can change the event in your mind by changing your own part in it. As you “correct yourself” and replay the same situation in a different way while behaving differently, you act to give yourself a “new pattern” to use in all future situations of a similar nature. This way, whenever the same type of situation occurs in the future, you have a well thought out idea on how to respond in a much more purposeful manner. Once you get good at this, you can practice it throughout the day when you have time to relax and reflect, and learn how to identify all your flaws and what it is that causes you to do them.

Identifying Severity of Destructive Tendencies

Another thing you can do is evaluate the extent of the problems these character flaws cause in your life. Some attitudes and behaviors are much more destructive and counterproductive than others, and these need to be identified for what they are and corrected as quickly as possible. One of the ways you can do this is to divide the character flaws into three categories in terms of the type of problems they cause. This will give you an idea of which ones cause the greatest problems and are outright destructive, and which ones are minor and somewhat irritating.

3 Levels of Bad Character Traits:

  • High – negative characteristics that influence you the most, happen frequently or are intense and super dramatic, and tend to cause the greatest problems.
  • Medium – ones that occur less frequently and have less influence and produce minor problems.
  • Low – ones that only occur occasionally and has minimal influence in our life.

This process will help you to become self-aware of your own character flaws and what it is about your behavior that causes you to fail in achieving what you desire to create, and in what ways it is that you act within your own life in a destructive and unconscious manner. You may want to practice it intensely for a couple of weeks, and then periodically as new realizations arise and become apparent.

In the same way you record all of your character flaws and shortcomings, you also want to record all of your positive characteristics and strong points. Reflect on and gain detailed awareness of your good character traits, high morality, and situations where you created just what you wanted to. In this way you can gain detailed information around what it is that you’re doing that both works and doesn’t work. You can realize your own faults and act on yourself to correct them in whatever way you want. You can acquire knowledge that will provide you with the basis for becoming a conscious creator in your own life and learn how to work by way of law in order to shape yourself in whatever way you choose to.

Soul Mirror

This practice will provide you with a form of mirror into your own soul where you can master self-control and create yourself and your life in whatever way you choose to instead of feeling as if you’re a victim to others and to the circumstances of your life. Our outer perception of reality is formed as a correspondence to our inner perception of our self. Our outer life is the result of the story we tell through our inner life. However we choose to intentionally develop our character determines the type of life we live and the story we tell about ourselves in living it. Every story has a main character that’s ideal for telling that type of story. If we don’t like the type of story we’re living, then the most natural way to change it is by developing our own character to be the main star in telling a different kind of story. This journal will help map out your character and provide you with greater insights into your own soul and why your life is the way it is.

“14” – The Art of Transmutation and Regulating Your Vibratory Frequency

The symbolic interpretation of the Tarot card 14 – Temperance by Dr. Linda Gadbois

In the occult sciences all “numbers” represent powers or potencies, laws or agencies, and conditions or effects. All double numbers exist as a formula of principles utilized in performing an operation, and are added together to form a single digit number as the primary law involved. All numbers are correlated with the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, which also represent principles and powers of creation and transformation. When we look at the number 14, we have a process indicated by 1 and 4 in undergoing the operation indicated by 5. Our formula is represented by the equation of 1 + 4 = 5.  All of what we call “laws” is actually the processes that are at work in any situation as the basis for creating the material world. The laws themselves are what you can think of as the invisible forces that energize, organize, and animate the material world.  1 represents mental power of concentrated thought that forms the basis for all manifestation, represented by 4, and 5 is the basic principle of “mind over matter”.

We form a basic translation of the meaning of numbers by utilizing a system of correspondences as a chain of associated ideas (intuitively). All major systems of spiritual sciences (Qabalah, Tarot, Astrology, Sacred Geometry, Numerology, etc.) can be used as the means of translating each other in order to find their shared meaning. The number 14 represents the principle of Temperance and the Art of Transformation in the Tarot, and corresponds with Tiphereth (5th Sephiroth) in the Qabalah Tree of Life. The Hebrew word assigned to 14 is Samekh, which means support, foundation, or what holds something up. It’s what makes the house secure as its foundation. It’s that which sustains, preserves, and maintains our personal existence.

The literal meaning of the Hebrew noun is “quivering” or “vibration”. Vibration is the fundamental power of the fiery force (fire) that makes sight possible. Sight is the sense that observes what has manifest as a sensory experience and is the function represented by Key 4. The fire element is represented by the “lion”, which is associated with “strength” (Key 8), and the value of Geburah in the Tree of Life (Qabalah) as “severity”, which is the strength aspect of 5 (Tiphereth) . The quality associated with Temperance is wrath, which indicates a strong action that causes a quivering or trembling (vibration) movement, and is represented by the Hebrew word RVGZ, which is translated numerically through the Keys of the Tarot forming:  R=19 (value of 200), V=5 (value of 6), G=2 (value of 3), and Z=6 (value of 7). When added together they form 216, which equals 9. When translated using Astrology we get:  R = Sun, V = Taurus, G = Moon, Z = Gemini > 19 + 5 + 2 + 6 = 32 = 5, the reduction of 14. Five is symbolized by the Hierophant as the higher-self working to create on the lower plane through the 2 lower aspects of the self-conscious and subconscious mind. In Sacred Geometry it represents the Pentad as the 5th element of the ether that resides over the 4 Elements of the lower plane. It symbolizes “mind over matter” and our ability to change our physical constitution using the power of our mind to alter our vibration.

Vibration is the basis out of which all physical forms manifest. Vibration is essentially a sound (spoken word) that organizes light (matter) into the meaning as an image associated with the word. Sound as an inner voice is the mode of consciousness associated with the Hierophant as “hearing”. Our 5th chakra is associated with the throat, and “will” as calling forth (speaking) the reality of the vision formed in the 6th chakra of the imagination. Vibration is a fluctuating motion as an undulation, pulsation, and alternation that creates a “wave-form”. A wave is formed through the polarity of complementary forces that work together as a single entity. This indicates the combination of rhythm and cycles, represented by Key 10 as a completed cycle of formation and growth. 10 = 1, this represents concentration on an idea in a single-minded fashion and the attentive observation of experience.

The mode of consciousness associated with 14 is Tentative Intelligence as “probation” or “trial”, because experience is the true test of all ideas. All theory is put to the test of practical application. As we apply an idea to our life, we produce an experience. We can then modify it by working directly with the experience. As we set an idea into motion we set up a kind of “feedback loop” where we begin receiving direct feedback as to the effectiveness of our application. This feedback is recognized by paying close attention to what we’re experiencing as we apply an idea to our everyday life. Based on the feedback we receive, we modify our idea until it produces the experience of reality it claims to. All learning as the means of acquiring knowledge through experience comes through experimenting with an idea through trial and error.

Temperance means to temper and modify something through a process of “adaptation” (Key 5), which is the basis of all practical work. All things are birthed as the adaptation of a universal idea to produce a personal version of the same idea. As we draw on an archetypal idea, we adapt it to our mental paradigm and the life situation we plan on utilizing it in as a means of creating an experience, and modify it accordingly. To adapt is to make adjustments necessary in order for it to work within a special set of circumstances. As we adjust an idea we undergo a constant process of equalization in order to coordinate it harmoniously with all other existing ideas. “Equilibrium is the basis of the Great Work”. The art of transmutation comes by applying universal knowledge through experimentation in order to “grow” in a continuous manner.

The image most commonly associated with Key 14 is an angel standing with one foot on land and the other in water, holding a container in one hand filled with water being poured onto the earth, and a wand in the other hand that’s directing a flame downward, combining water and fire as the passive (form) and active (life-force) aspects that form the same thing. A rainbow connects both sides of the angel’s wings, and symbolizes a bridge that unites the two minds in a harmonious and balanced state. By changing the proportion of the qualities being combined, we alter the results. The colors of the rainbow (7) reveal the hidden nature of light as interwoven frequencies that blend together to form a unified whole. Vibratory qualities exist as complementary pairs of opposites that are extremes of each other, and are used to modify each other.

The pool of water represents the subconscious which is the seat of automatic consciousness as the “vital soul” of man (light body), which is regulated and directed by the higher-self, represented by Tiphereth (5) on the center of the Tree as an equilibrated state. Water is influenced by the Moon (as instinct) and symbolizes emotion and memory (which are always connected) that takes the shape of its container and “informs it”. This is the same pool shown in Key 18, called the Moon, which symbolizes the subconscious. The rolling hills in the background imitate the motion of a wave as peaks and valleys, which is the characteristic as a “range” of all forms of vibration. A path rises from the pool and undergoes many cycles of growth by adapting too many life situations and circumstances, which serve to modify and grow it accordingly.  

The angel is wearing a crown designed as a headband with a “Monad” directly over the forehead, representing the 3rd-eye where archetypal ideas are translated into visual images that become the creative instructions for the subconscious to produce as an experience of reality. The attainment of higher consciousness comes as self-mastery where we master our lower nature to create the kingdom of the Higher Soul. Key 1 symbolizes attainment through self-realization of perfect union with primal will. Wisdom and Understanding (Chokmah and Binah) are only attained through experience. All of our experiences are created by how we’re using complementary aspects of our mind to produce our reality. If we don’t like our experience of reality, then we need to change the thoughts and ideas we’re using as the means of creating it.

The number 7 (7 + 7 = 14) represents creative expression as a variation produced through the adaptation of an idea to a practical situation that modifies it. In Sacred Geometry, the Heptad (7) is comprised of 7 angles within a circle that have no precise measurement, and so each time it’s drawn or constructed, it’s a unique variation of the same shape. 7 is the number that represents “will” as our innate ability to select a new idea and apply it in order to create something new, or transform what already exists into a new variation. We take a new idea and start by forming it in our imagination as a possible reality that serves to provide us with a kind of template for applying it.

As we apply an idea to create an experience of it, we constantly modify it based on observation of what results, until we get it just the way we want. Over the heart center of the angel is a “7 pointed star” which has reference to “skill”, because the circle must be divided into 7 equal parts that can only be estimated through trial and error. Above it is written the Tetragrammaton as the 4-letter name of God (YHVH), which is actually a formula for creating as Will, Intellect, Sensation, and the manifestation of the intellect (idea). The 7 points represent the 7 aspects of God, the 7 colors of the spectrum, 7 notes of a musical scale, 7 planets of astrology, 7 alchemical metals, and the 7 energy centers of the subtle body. All of which form correspondences of each other.

One foot is in the pool of water = the cosmic mind-stuff of the astral plane (imagination), and the other on land = physical reality produced by the mind, and the body which bridges the two as the path we walk. The two instruments, the vessel and wand, represent the subconscious and self-conscious, and the body that holds them is the soul that utilizes them as the means of creating. They flow one into another. What’s below streams from above, and what’s above is reflected below (4/Tetrad). The inner and the outer are a single stream of consciousness where one is a continuation of the other in symbolic form. Opposites act on each other to temper each other. Thought and emotion always exist in union where one gives rise to the other as an intimate interaction.

The Holy Guardian Angel deciding and administering the whole process represents our Higher Divine Self-Soul, who makes all of our tests and trials that lead us along the path of attainment. We are always the “One” acting on ourselves within multiple planes of manifestation. We exist simultaneously on two primary planes that are comprised of 7 levels of consciousness. This arrangement (image composition) is the same as the Hierophant (5) and the Lovers (6), which both show a higher being (priest and guardian angel) overseeing a young couple (male and female), where three aspects of our selves operate as if they’re one on two levels of reality. This triangular configuration represents the 3-aspects of the mind as the Higher or Super conscious, the subconscious (feminine) and self-conscious (masculine), and the two levels of reality they exist in simultaneously.   

Some pictorial composites show an arrow shooting upward, representing that we have to shoot for a definite mark or goal in all of our practices. Never accept theories or statements of others as being true, no matter how plausible they may seem, until you’ve tried them for yourself by applying them practically to create an experience of them. Always test ideas through actual practice. We only “attain” knowledge through experience, and we only transform and grow ourselves through creating experiences of ourselves that bring self-realization. The whole purpose of ageless wisdom is to provide us with the theories as the basis for actual practice. It’s not designed to persuade you to accept ideas as being true through a form of blind faith. Truth can only be known through direct experience. The only true failure in life is the failure to try. Anyone who accepts an idea as being true without trying it is foolish in the most basic sense and unintelligent. All spiritual knowledge is meant to provide us with the means for growing ourselves to higher and higher levels of wisdom and understanding. It’s only by trial and experimenting with ideas that you realize truth and the power that makes the experiment into something higher than your personality.

It’s our experiments that alter us by equalizing and coordinating our vibratory (energetic) activities. We only truly “know” by becoming one with an idea as a reality that brings realization and deeper insights into our own higher nature. Everything in the manifest world is vibrating at a certain frequency, and all forms of vibration are modified by mental means and control. The entire cosmos is mental in nature. All reality is birthed through a concentration of the mind on an idea. This path (14) leads from the moon of Yesod to the Sun of Tiphereth as the higher soul working through the agency of the subconscious and self-conscious to form the etheric body (Yesod) of Light (7), which forms the vibration as an energetic blueprint for ordering and animating the material body.

This idea represents the consummation of the Royal Marriage (Lovers) where the feminine and masculine are united to form a single androgen. All transformation comes by using the self-conscious mind to seed the subconscious mind with an idea for creating as an outer experience. We change our vibration and transform our physical world through a counter-exchange of qualities that form equilibrium as the inner made the outer and the outer an extension and reflection of the inner. By forming new combinations of positive and negative qualities of the same idea, we adapt the inner to the outer and modify it into a new variation as a growth process based on experience that develops us in new ways. The robe of the angel is green, symbolizing Venus, the imagination, and the plant kingdom. All actual material objects are regarded as “dead” (fixed) by the symbolism of science. The problem with transmuting metals is that they don’t grow. Our first task in transforming ourselves is to return fixed ideas (minerals) back into a state of growing and evolving (vegetative). The best way to do this is by imitating the processes of Nature.

When fire and water are harmoniously mingled, will and sensation form thought as air, which becomes the astral seed for manifesting as a reality. Once manifest, the manifestation itself doesn’t have the ability to change itself, only the mind as thought has the ability to alter the light body that’s used to organize it. It’s only by changing the “qualities” as the formula being used that alters the manifestation that results. By changing the frequency an idea vibrates at, we change the energetic pattern organizing it. We use complementary opposites to reformulate it by mingling contradictory elements in order to modify it. We transform existing manifestations by modifying the qualities being used to form and animate it. The Alchemical Marriage comes by forming new combinations of fire and water that alter the astral body of light and vibration. The formula for continued life is death (13), traditionally symbolized by the raven on a skull. The Greenman of spiritual folklore is the “dreamer” and “redeemer”. It’s through dreaming that we continue to grow. When we quit growing we begin dying.

We only transform through growth that develops new qualities as a way of being and seeing. By using complementary opposites of the same frequency we embody new qualities as a state of mind. The internal process comes by using the hidden stone (Pineal) V.I.T.R.I.O.L., which is considered the universal solvent. This hidden stone, also called the Philosophers stone, is the Universal Medicine as a “tincture” that’s formulated by adding new properties that serve to transform the constitution of the whole. Purification comes by transforming weakness as passions into strength as intelligence. The only real difference between dead and living things is their behavior and activities.

The term “vitriol” represents the balance of 3 things, symbolized by the 3 alchemical principles of sulfur, mercury, and salt (Key 1,3, and 4). Ideas that we use to seed our imagination are gestated and developed to form our physical reality. All creation comes as speech (words) that are felt as an experience. Our vital body is formed by will, intellect, and sensation, and is what forms the energetic blueprint for producing our experiences of reality. Creating a new living substance is the path of the Higher Will which operates on the lower self by planting a seeded idea in the imagination where it gestates and grows into a manifestation as an equivalent outer experience. A talisman is commonly used to represent an idea that’s grown in the imagination and birthed as an outer experience of the same kind. It’s a vision introduced into our mind that forms our voice and directs all of our activities. It’s a combination of forces, realization, and action that form a feedback loop and provide us with the basis for making accurate calculations. We use an idea translated into an internal representation of a possible reality as the means of providing us with a template for transforming our self by producing new experiences. Whatever reality we formulate inwardly becomes the basis for experiencing outwardly.

Self-Creation and the Art of Modeling

One of the most fundamental ways we can develop certain qualities and ways of being in ourselves is by modeling others who actively demonstrate those qualities. We all know this as children where it comes naturally by pretending to be like our favorite characters and heroes, and as teenagers when we’re taking over the process of creating our identity by trying on new ways of being in order to see how they feel. As we grow older and get caught up in the hustle and bustle of our adult life, we start becoming fixed as a certain way of being and seem to somehow lose touch with knowing how to create ourselves. We can train our body to take on any characteristic we want to by practicing being that way in a diligent and consistent manner. We can train ourselves to be anyway we want to be by first deciding how we want to be, then practicing being that way over and over until it becomes natural.

Creating a Model for Transforming Ourselves

In order to begin creating ourselves in a deliberate manner we have to first form an idea in our mind of how we want to be. We have to look at what qualities and traits we don’t like in ourselves, and decide which ones we’re going to use in order to transform them. What kind of character traits do we want to possess and how we want to be as a person. Once we decide on the characteristic we want to acquire, we then find someone who naturally possesses that characteristic, and we study them to see “how” it is they “do” it. We notice all the little mannerisms in how they perform it. We then practice doing it the same way over and over until it starts becoming natural.

Anytime that we’re practicing being different than we normally are, it feels awkward at first. This is natural and will go away with continued practice. It can help to practice in front of a mirror so you can see what you look like and make sure you’re doing it the way you like. This is the same method used by dancers and actors who practice while watching themselves in a mirror to make sure their form is correct. As you watch yourself you can make any adjustments you like until you get it just the way you want it. Once you’re able to do it proficiently, practice it numerous times until you can do it without thought, discipline, or effort. You have to build it into your muscle as “body memory”.

The Magical Number of Manifestation

There’s what we can think of as a “magic number” for any type of manifestation or making something into a habit, and that number is “40”. If you repeat something 40 times, it starts becoming natural and automatic If you practice a new ritual or routine for 40 days (approx. 6 weeks) it becomes a new habit and you do it automatically without having to remember to do it. This is why all programs or processes designed to produce change or transformation of some kind are conducted in 6 week time frames. Other programs that run for “21 days” are just over the halfway mark, and become easier to maintain at the hallway point without a lot of effort. The law of the Tetrad, represented by the number 4, represents material manifestation (4 elements) as our mental and physical constitution, and provides us with the means as a process by which we can actively transform our constitution.  

Start by deciding what it is about you that you want to change, and what it is you want to change it to. Once you decide how you want to be, find a person you know or can watch who has that trait or way about them, and mentor them. Study their mannerisms and how it is exactly that they do it, and then imitate them in your own way. Practice being the same way over and over, until you begin doing it just the way you want. Once you have it down, practice it numerous more times until you can do it without any effort. Then set the intention to practice it throughout the day for several days until it starts coming naturally and you no longer have to try or remind yourself to do it.

Synchronizing your Mind with your Body

What you’ll notice is that just by changing your posture and “how you’re being” and acting, changes how you sense yourself and how you feel as a result. It’ll literally change your perspective as your perception to match it. Your physiology is always equated to your “state of mind”, and as you change what you’re doing with our body it changes how you feel about yourself. As you begin sensing yourself in a new and different way, it changes how you feel and how you experience yourself. As your experience of yourself changes, so does your experience of everything else. As you perceive yourself in new ways, the world around you begins changing in the same way. You influence others by stimulating those same qualities in them, changing the nature of your interaction.

All experience of the outer world is a direct reflection of how we experience ourselves inwardly. As we change our outward actions, our inward state changes forming a new perspective and way of seeing the outer world through a new perceptual lens. For example, by simply correcting your posture and standing up straight with your shoulders back, neck straight and head centered directly over your pelvic area (center of balance) with your chin up, you automatically feel more confident and naturally assert yourself more. Learning to utilize our body posture as a means of self-expression is one of the ways we can act on ourselves to change the way we feel about ourselves. Disciplined action only comes by way of an equally disciplined mind. We use our mind to intentionally direct our body as a means of creating ourselves to be a certain way.

Modeling is the number one way we intentionally develop ourselves to possess the character traits and style of self-expression that we desire. This process can be done to acquire (bring out and cultivate) or transform any physical characteristic (habit), including voice tone and quality, how you naturally breathe, and how you walk and hold yourself. Don’t ever make the mistake of taking the attitude that you’re somehow “copying others”, because this isn’t the case. As you practice a particular form it allows your own style to emerge where you can consciously begin developing it just like any art. It creates a pathway through which you can actively bring out latent potential and use it to cultivate yourself to greater levels of self-expression. Don’t take on too much at one time, and become completely intuitive with one thing before you move on to another.

Archetypes as Laws and Principles that Provide Tools for Personal Transformation

In order to gain an understanding of how archetypes work in our psychological make-up, we have to start by defining what an archetype is. An archetype is what’s used in the most primary sense to illustrate or represent natural principles and laws. An archetype represents a kind of prototype, universal template, or ideal that we use for creating in every aspect of our life. As multidimensional, multifaceted beings, our personality and psychological make-up is comprised of universal archetypes that we share with all of humanity, represented by the zodiac and the ancient gods of Mythology. An archetype as a principle is represented as an “idea” or “being” that has certain types of attributes, qualities and characteristics, that form its basic personality giving it a natural disposition, temperament, perspective and “type” or kind of behaviors that naturally lend themselves to telling a certain type of story as it’s “identity”. Our basic psychological make-up as our personality is formed by the twelve universal (everyone has them) archetypes of the zodiac as personality traits in varying degrees and aspects that are composed into a “formula” as our primary “state of consciousness”.  As we go out into the world and begin participating in co-creating reality, this state of consciousness as our personality acts to predetermine and form our “identity” as the roles we naturally cast ourselves in or take on, and the type of story we tell by how we express our character traits and live our life. In order to change the character traits that make up our personality and identity, we have to work by way of these same principles as archetypes by reformulating them. The ultimate form of transformation as self-development, doesn’t come by changing individual or select behaviors, habits, or tendencies, though it can be in the ordinary sense, but rather by working with attributes and qualities that form new characteristics. By evolving characteristics that form our personality and have natural behaviors inherent in them as a “way of being”, we naturally produce new experiences that give us a new and different “sense of ourselves”, that simultaneously produces a new kind of reality as the story we naturally begin telling through our newly acquired perceptions and behaviors. “Being” always produces “doing”, and doing always results in physical manifestation. To work through principles says that the way to change how something or someone functions and performs, and the reality they create through the story they naturally tell as a result, is to work with their character and nature to alter, modify and reformulate its inherent properties and elements. By adjusting and modifying the qualities one expresses through, we change the entire operation. So instead of trying to change one aspect within a whole, natural operation, often without ever identifying what attribute is ultimately causing it, you work instead to adjust the inner nature as their character, and let the changes that ensue from it naturally take place. Then evaluate them to determine if or what other attributes need to be adjusted, until it naturally acts to produce the change you want. All change ultimately comes in a natural and permanent manner by changing the character of the person forming the behaviors that you desire to change. All other methods may solve a specific application or instance, but the behavior and tendency itself will continue to play out in others ways. What’s referred to in Alchemy as the “chemical marriage”, comes through coupling, combining, and assimilation of its equal and complementary opposite. Transformation takes place by mingling, blending, and combining contradictory opposites to form a new whole. By returning what is fixed and dead to a fluid and growing state. When we assume habitual qualities that make up our character and nature, and fail to grow in the essential sense of our inner self, we become as dead matter, measured only by quantity and proportion. We stagnate and begin living a life of routine and dogma, performing the same rituals day after day in an automatic way, and begin living out of the same mindset telling ourselves the same story day in and day out. When we stop growing, learning, and becoming something new and different in each moment, we begin the process of withering and dying. All behaviors and habits are merely the expression of established and well-practiced qualities that make up our character. So the way to change a habit, specific behavior, or tendency, isn’t to work directly with it in the practical sense of breaking a pattern to form a new one, but rather by identifying what part of your nature is producing that behavior as a natural expression and working through the law of sympathy and antipathy to modify it. It’s only by changing our inner nature somehow that we change our outer expression which is what produces our experience of reality.

        Qualities exist as attributes that are polar in nature as complementary opposites that form extremes of each other, with a gradient scale between them as degrees. We seldom ever fall exclusively on one side or the other, but rather somewhere in between, and express in favor of one extreme or the other under different circumstances. Many behavioral tendencies come more as a dynamic and interactive combination of qualities that must be worked with as groups or complementary clusters rather than as singular in nature, although often what is spurned as a quality actually results from a “core or parent” quality, which, when transformed, changes all offspring produced by it systematically. For example, jealousy and envy, whose opposite is admiration and trust, may be the offspring of self-doubt, lack of confidence, and low self-worth, and until this is addressed and transformed, the jealousy won’t go away. At best it’ll be repressed and subdued or corrected (seemingly) in one situation, while still existing as a tendency and natural perception in any other situation that warrants it, because what’s “causing it” hasn’t been changed. Once self-worth has been transformed into a healthy state of confidence, self-love and admiration, the tendency towards jealousy in all areas dissipates and is no longer apart of personal awareness and feelings. In other words, the person no longer feels that way in situations that used to warrant a deep feeling of jealousy and envy. To breed confidence in place of being timid and feeling unsure of yourself requires working with believing in yourself, trusting yourself, and honoring your uniqueness. Just trying to correct the behavior itself by telling them (or yourself) to not be timid or afraid, or by making them feel bad somehow for being that way, not only doesn’t transform it, but can in fact compound and exaggerate it, making it even worse. Qualities as our inner nature and personality form an interactive model as a cluster of qualities that have been developed through an active and expressive state to produce our experiences. We form beliefs about and around ourselves and others through the active expression of innate qualities being brought out in us through the dynamics, conditions, and life situations we grew up in, that served to establish our initial personality as traits and characteristics we naturally possess and outwardly express in a fluent manner as adults.

       All of these active, well-developed qualities have their complementary opposites, which also exist within us in a latent state, and can be used in a strategic manner to transform them. We simply have to realize it, form a desire and intention to perfect ourselves, and use our will creatively to transform our character into new habits. We “become” whatever we form a habit of. By intentionally working to develop ourselves by embodying and acting out counteractive qualities, and practicing “being that way”, we transform and evolve our perceptions, how we “sense ourselves”, and how we feel about ourselves. For example, just by changing our posture from a slumped one to an erect one, back straight, head held up high, making eye contact, all characteristics of “confident behavior”, we actually feel more confident. As we feel more confident, we create an experience of ourselves as “being” confident, and we start acting that way more and more, until it becomes a natural part of who we are in the most ordinary sense. All qualities have a state-of-mind and physiological characteristics associated with them. By becoming an actor in our own life, so to speak, we can imagine the state-of-mind out of which confidence would be the result, and by employing the behaviors and postures that communicate and outwardly demonstrate confidence, and “become” confident. We can actively choose to embody that state and quality of being, and act it out as a means of expressing ourselves in some situation, as the basis for creating an experience of ourselves in that manner. If we feel we don’t know how to be, feel, and act confident, we can find someone that we consider confident and self-assured, study them to see what they’re attitude, frame of mind, physiology (the way they hold themselves, gestures, facial expressions, voice tone and quality, etc.), and how they act, then we can model them by “pretending” to be the same way. Just like when we were kids and we developed ourselves by pretending to be just like our favorite characters. This whole process of self-development is natural to us as children when we’re in a primary state of creating ourselves using our imagination, but we tend to lose this ability as we become adults. As adults, we’ve established patterns and instead of taking an attitude of “creating new memories”, we begin simply living out of the memories already created in a repetitive fashion, feeling and being the same way over and over, creating the same type of experiences in the present as in the past, and we stop growing as a result. While the subconscious mind, which forms our personality, is habitual in nature, working to create and behave in an automatic fashion based on memory as habits, it’s also passive and receptive in nature, lacking a will of its own, and can be directed by the conscious mind to employ new qualities, behave in new ways as the expression of those qualities, and form new memories that will become new habits as a natural way of being. We don’t always need to go through years of therapy in an attempt to try and resolve or understand our story about things and what happened to us, and why we became the way we are. Sometimes all we have to do is realize as adults we still have the ability to create ourselves in any way we want to by simply detaching from the past and our story about it, deciding what aspects of ourselves we want to grow and transform into something better and greater, set the intention to do so, then begin the work of practicing in a disciplined manner to become it.

       We can bring what’s in a fixed and established state back into a fluid and growing state. We can realize who we’ve become up to this point, and who we want to be instead, or in moving forward to continue the process of actively developing ourselves. We see ourselves and our life as a “work in progress” of continuous and never-ending growth. Not as “being” a certain way, but rather in a continuous state of “becoming”. We can decide what story we want to tell by how we live our life, and what “kind” of person we have to become in order to do that. We can move outside of the mindset that says we’re always determined by other people, by how they act and treat us, or by what situations we found ourselves in or acted unknowingly to create, and begin taking an attitude instead of being responsible for our own development and who we become by way of our own willful decisions and disciplined actions. We can disconnect from all the memories and illusions of the past, be present in the moment, and become aware of ourselves in terms of how and who we’re being, and “in that awareness”, actively choose how we’re going to be, regardless of others and what’s happening around us. We can detach from our emotional connection to others that keep us constantly affected by and responding to them, reside apart from them as our own person, and choose how we’re going to interact accordingly. We’re only affected by people because as children in our “formative years”, only our subconscious was fully developed and dominantly active and we were constantly taking in the suggestions and attitudes of others and using them to shape ourselves in relation with them. This tendency becomes established as a way of self-development, so that even when the self-conscious aspect of the mind develops to the point of being active and dominate as our awareness, which has the ability to judge and decide what to let in or keep out, we continue acting to develop in an unconscious manner. Once we develop a conscious mind, which separates us from our parents and others and gives us the ability to think for ourselves, discriminate and reason, and act based on choice and will to give suggestions to our own subconscious mind as a way of self-development instead of other-development, we acquire the ability to become self-determined. The problem is, by the time we’ve become adults it’s become a habit as an automatic process of stimulus – response, action – reaction, and we don’t realize that we now have a will and can act independent of others in determining our own psychological makeup. We can finally realize that who others are, how they’re being towards us, and what they think of us has nothing to do with us, unless we let it by engaging through a reactive, like-response. As soon as we realize this, break the unconscious emotional connection, and see ourselves as a part from others, where their behavior and attitude no longer produces a reaction in us, we step into our true power to decide in every moment who and how we’re going to be, then act it out producing an experience of ourselves as being that way.

Summary: All transformation comes as an “inside job”. It comes through transforming the qualities that make up our character that naturally produce all of our perceptions and behaviors as a natural way of being that serve to tell a story of some kind. We don’t transform by addressing specific behaviors, but rather by working with the personality traits and character that act to naturally produce them as a tendency. By changing our “core” or kernel, we change how it expresses outwardly and what it acts to create through behaviors and deeds of some sort. Archetypes are tools for transformation because they provide us with a dynamic system of what qualities and personality traits produce what type of behaviors that naturally perform a stylized operation as a thematic story-line. All qualities exist in polarity, with a wide range of degrees and variances in between, and can be modified by employing their opposite and contradictory aspect. All vibration as a pattern is altered by coupling with a similar, yet variable pattern of the same nature, where different degrees of the same quality are being expressed, that allows it to acquire and take on new attributes. We train and condition ourselves to new ways of being by modeling the qualities necessary until they become a natural part of us. Whatever we pretend to be, we become. Cleansing Sexual Energy – Vibration, Attraction and Repulsion

The easiest way to get a working understanding of this idea is to look at the principles governing energy as vibration. All vibration resonates with vibration of a similar nature and acts to attract, absorb and integrate it, forming coherence as a harmonious whole. All vibratory frequency exists as a range of vibration (wave-form) that forms a gravitational field with what’s of the same frequency, while acting to repel or deflect whatever is outside of its range. All vibration has a rate (speed) and mode (type) of vibration as a quality and level of consciousness that moves along a hierarchical scale as an accumulative, progressive or digressive movement from a lower (singular and separate) to a higher (unified and whole) level, within the same frequency as a wave-form.

A vibratory frequency as a pattern forms a “state of mind” as a type of personality and identity that naturally acts to initiate and cooperatively participate in certain types of stories as “life themes”. A life theme is a vibratory frequency that expresses as natural behavioral tendencies. Vibration contains a pattern that’s self-organizing, self-perpetuating, and self-sustaining. Form as a pattern is always associated with function as an operation or set of behaviors that are acted out as a behavioral dynamic. Whatever vibratory frequency we resonate at, determines the type of behavioral dynamic we participate in as a natural expression of our mode of consciousness as a “life theme”, and determines what type of people and activities we feel attracted to or repulsed by.

All subtle energy exists as a dynamic interwoven series of complementary frequencies that are comprised of attributes, qualities and properties that make up our character as our morality. The electromagnetic field of the body (individual mind), formed by subtle energy that divides into polar opposites and forms a hologram as a breathing sphere of alternating currents, is both magnetic and projective. What’s of the same nature (vibration) as we are is drawn in, absorbed, and maintained by our system, and what’s not is diffused, emitted, and repulsed. Frequency, which exists as a holistic wave of archetypal energy that forms our morality is the determining factor of what we “hold” and what we “release” from our mind and body.

The main factor in our soul’s growth and development in terms of evolutionary digression or progression is our moral nature. Our Moral values are a set of principles that we use as a means of evaluating things in order to make good decisions in terms of “good and bad” or “right and wrong”. Not as an opinion or societal rule, but as a recognition and practical application of universal law as the means of consciously self-creating. By creating a “moral code of conduct” based on an understanding and utilization of Universal laws within our everyday life, we take conscious control of regulating and determining our own vibratory frequency and personal/moral development.

Morality – Immortality and Mortality

Our morality can be thought of as a holistic idea that includes all of the factors that result in behavior, or actions, and activities of some kind, that we willingly participate in. It’s the unified expression of our mental paradigm (vibratory frequency) of what we relate to, feel a connection to, and have a desire for. It’s the end result of thoughts, feelings, emotions, and what we “blend ourselves with” as a form of inner imagining and thought process that forms the basis for our outer activities. Anything we “take into our mind” (act as a receiver and channel for) and form into an inner reality, we become one with in spirit and essence. Whatever we have an attraction for and feel an affinity with, we’re always seeking out, merging into, becoming one with, taking on the same qualities and moral characteristics.

Our mind is an electromagnetic field (EMF) of subtle energy that’s charged with and tuned to a certain vibration, and is always interacting and exchanging energy with the equivalent consciousness in everything else. We are always connecting with those of a similar nature to us, both unconsciously through a form of spontaneity, chemistry, or natural attraction, and consciously where we notice them, they stand out, and we find ourselves drawn to them. While most sexual attraction takes place predominately at the subconscious level (a part of our animal/instinctual nature), consciously we’re able to evaluate people and situations in order to make decisions as to what we engage in and what we don’t.

The Nature of Subtle Energy

Subtle energy is the invisible energy of the spiritual plane that forms the basis for the material plane as a holographic substratum. As we think, (words and images) forming ideas in our mind as a reality that provides us with an experience of it as a kind of preview, is the same as actually “doing it” in spiritual terms. Our thoughts as imagined realities (sensory experiences) are how we willfully create ourselves to vibrate at the frequency of our thoughts. As we form thoughts into realities, we have an emotional response to our own thoughts, and those harmonious emotions are the language of the lower material plane and act to connect us with everything else that’s of the same emotional state. Thoughts (spirit) and emotions (soul) are always connected and act together to produce our behavior and activities (body). Our thoughts and emotions are how we use our creative power of mind to shape matter into internal images and dialogue that forms our perceptual lens and becomes the basis for our outward expression.

We don’t necessarily generate thoughts, but act instead as a receiver for thoughts as archetypal ideas, where we become the channel for that idea to express by adapting it to our mental paradigm (vibratory frequency) where we morph it into a new variation of the same type of idea, played out through our character and within the conditions and circumstances of our everyday life, forming it into a subjective experience. Whatever we engage in morally, we enter into relationship with, blend and fuse with energetically, taking on the same consciousness and way of being. As long as we are morally in tuned to the activity as a relationship that we use to experience ourselves, we “hold” or exist as that same energy and consciousness, and it continues to express through us by governing and directing our thoughts, emotional states, and what we’re prone to in terms of behavioral tendencies.

Temperament, Disposition and Tendencies 

To have a tendency towards something means that we are of the same nature as it is. You’ll have a tendency, under the right conditions, to actively engage in in certain types of behaviors in a consistent and predictable manner. Whatever we feel a connection to and a desire for; we vibrate at the same frequency. Our temperament and disposition is what we’re prone to, and is an inherent part of our nature which is what serves to form our character. Whatever we willingly engage in, shows us in very certain terms what our moral values are. We never act either consciously or unconsciously to violate our moral values. Any activity that we engage in, fits within our moral values, and we can justify our right to do it by how we look at it, and what we tell ourselves about it that makes it okay. Our actions (whether deliberate or compulsive) show us what our tendencies are in very clear terms, and what we’re naturally feel “tempted by”. It shows us what we can reasonably justify and feel validated in doing under the right circumstances and conditions.

Our moral nature is our energetic, spiritual, vibratory frequency that forms resonance with everything that’s of the same nature as we are. Whenever we engage in an act with someone, we are being the same type of person, and we share the same type of consciousness. If we go out to a bar or social activity and pick-up someone with the intention of having sex with them, we are morally equivalent to that person. We mix energetically (consciously) with them, and everybody else that they have had sex with, which is probably quite a few. Likewise, they’re acquiring all the moral energy of everyone we’ve ever had sex with. Sex is a direct exchange of energy as a “fusion” – symbolized not only by the nature of the act itself as entering into and becoming one with that person (swapping body fluids as seed and egg), but through the climax or orgasm, where all resistance subsides completely, and a form of expansion and integration takes place. Anytime we have sex with someone we don’t really know very well, we’re opening ourselves up to a vast array of unknown possibilities as moods and emotions that alter our state of mind.

As long as we’re of the same moral nature as the people we had sex with, performing the same activities and tendencies, we still carry their energy. As long as we still have a desire for the person or act itself, we maintain an energetic equivalent and bond. Their energy, as their morality, lives in us, because we’re the same way. When we consciously become aware of what’s  really going on, and the nature of our moral code of conduct that we hold ourselves to as a basic means of self-creating at the energetic level, we begin loosening up the acquired energy, allowing it to discharge, and we begin repelling it. As long as we still feel a desire for the person or act (sex with a stranger, cheating and infidelity, sex with someone we don’t love, etc.) we still act as a magnet or carrier wave for their energy. Like always attracts to and creates more of what’s like itself. By losing our desire for it (them), our connection with it, where we quit thinking about it altogether, we become of a different moral nature and vibratory frequency, and we no longer maintain the energy through resonance.

Once we lose our desire for it, where we no longer see it as pleasurable, we’re no longer tempted by it. Anything that tempts you, you still have a desire for and connection to. Anything that you continue thinking about while experiencing strong emotions, you continue holding the energy of that vibration. Energy as emotion (energy in motion) is directed by and flows into thought. What we think about is the result or expression of our vibratory frequency. In order to clear yourself of certain experiences, you have to see it in such a way that it’s no longer pleasurable and desirable, but rather disgusting and repulsive. Where you are no longer tempted by it and have no trouble at all refraining from it, and it no longer controls your thoughts. You know you’ve cleared energy from your system when you no longer think about it or act unconsciously to create yourself by way of the activities involved and the experience it brings.

The Importance of Working with an Ideal – Creating a Vision for Your Ultimate Development

        While many of us have been trained to the idea of creating a vision for our life in terms of lifestyle, professional career, relationships, health, etc., few of us embrace the importance of forming an “ideal” of ourselves in terms of self-development or spiritual realization. Yet, the interesting fact that many fail to realize is that all other goals as activities or accomplishments of our life, depend on our personal development for achieving in a natural and automatic fashion. Our “life” is created out of our “self”. We are the creators of our life as a fundamental form of self-expression. By changing ourselves and acquiring new abilities, all other areas of our life change accordingly. If we try to change “areas of our life” without changing the part of ourselves that are naturally producing it, we struggle, become frustrated, and usually fail in the ultimate sense, often, without ever knowing why.

Another “fluffy comment” that’s popular these days is the idea that you’re “perfect just the way you are”. This idea is usually addressing various forms of judgment from other people, or self-esteem issues around “not being good enough”. Yet self-perfection, as a personal “ideal”, which is the ultimate and only real spiritual goal, is something we not only decide for ourselves, but are also fully responsible for executing. Nobody can develop us for us (intentionally), just as no one can heal us. All healing and self-growth is something only we can do for ourselves by how we use our mind to control our body, our behaviors, and activities that we naturally engage in. In much the same way we create a vision as an ultimate outcome, achieved through systematic steps and stages as goals necessary for achieving the outcome, we create an “ideal” of ourselves as “being the best we can be”, then aspire towards it by intentionally developing latent potential, healing emotional and psychological issues that prevent it, or being the way we want to be in terms of character and quality of consciousness.

Perfection can be thought of as taking an idea, and turning it into the ultimate form of that idea as an “ideal”. Perfection is whatever perfect means to us. No one else can tell us what perfection means, or what qualities we need to develop in order to be perfect. Perfection is a standard or quality of being. Our concept of self-perfection as our “ideal self”, is something that we must soul search in order to realize, then want it bad enough to devote ourselves to doing what it takes to become it. Our personal ideal has nothing to do with material possessions, wealth, status, or creating a self image that we portray to the world as a false image of how we’d like to be seen by others, but rather as an essential part of our true nature that’s developed internally, that becomes a natural part of our being. It comes by developing qualities that evolve our character to a higher level of awareness and self-control, which forms the foundation necessary for a whole series of positive changes to take place automatically as the natural offspring of new qualities of consciousness. The most natural way to create in all areas of our life, is to start by consciously creating our “self”. Out of our self, comes everything else in an effortless and spontaneous way.

In many of the spiritual traditions, which are all focused on self-development from a moral perspective, they provide a system of understanding qualities of consciousness as possessing opposite yet complementary aspects of each other as vices and virtues. Vices are poor character traits that form weakness that lead to various forms of addictions and moral degradation, and are predominantly destructive in nature. Virtues are positive, opposite qualities of vices, which provide the means for transforming them. Virtues are qualities of higher levels of consciousness that are strengths, lead to growth and nourishment, and naturally produce very positive and constructive results in all areas of your life. Virtues are loving and unselfish in nature, and act naturally to produce a sense of harmony, pervading contentment, and happiness not only for ourselves, but for everyone involved. Virtues expand our awareness and increase our ability to both give and receive higher forms of knowledge and unconditional love.

Anytime we’re creating, we have to start with a vision of the desired outcome as an experience, so we know what the process for creating it will be. Though your ultimate vision for your ideal self may take many steps to accomplish, it’s important that you work on only one step at a time, and don’t start the next step until that one is well established and a part of your natural way of being (built into your subconscious). One of the ways we set ourselves up for failure, is by trying to take on too many things at one time creating a feeling of being overwhelmed and therefore struggling, or by scattering our energy in too many directions by trying to do too much all at once. Every acquisition of a new quality requires complete concentration and devoted practice over an extended period of time in order to “build it into the muscle”, where it becomes a natural way of being that no longer requires conscious effort.

Even with concentrated effort and a strong sense of discipline to stay with a task over a long period of time, you’ll relapse many times throughout the day by falling into habitual patterns that are well established and forgetting what you’re doing. This is natural, and when you realize you’re off task, simply re-center (remind) yourself in your desired intention, refocus your mind and adjust your mood, and continuing practicing. Repeatedly bring yourself back anytime you forget, and continue practicing without getting discouraged, and the new quality and behavior associated with it will begin taking hold, and you’ll be able to stay focused for longer and longer periods of time. All forms of intentional creation come from your ability to concentrate your efforts and stay focused on what it is you’re creating.

The approximate time for breaking one habit by replacing it with another, is forty days, or six weeks. The approximate time for simply establishing a new habit that doesn’t involve breaking an old one, is three weeks (half the time), or twenty one days, and it’s fully established (permanent) in six weeks. This gives you an idea of the amount of time you should plan on dedicating to each step of your development. You’ll also develop the ability to concentrate and stay with something for long periods of time, commit to devotional practice, and develop the patience it takes to accomplish a major feat (which a behavioral change is). You can consider your goal accomplished when you become that way automatically, and no longer have to think about it, or put conscious effort into it. All behaviors are “learned and conditioned” (trained), and likewise, can be unlearned and reconditioned. Our initial development was a predominately unconscious process, and all we’re doing here is making it a fully conscious process undertaken with a deliberate and determined attitude.

In order to realize what your ideal is, simply allow yourself to realize that an idea of who you really are, and how you’d like to be already exists inside of you as the qualities, talents, natural gifts, and interests that you naturally possess. No matter what stage of your life you’re at, you’ve only brought a small portion of your “self” into expression, while the greater part of yourself as “potential” remains dormant inside of you. Parts of you may have been developed in a negative way through your initial conditioning, which you can transform into its positive opposite quality. For example, fear and cowardice (often displayed through anger or defensiveness), can be transformed by embodying courage and bravery in its place. Hatred and a sense of animosity, can be transformed with love and compassion. Whatever is the opposite quality is what’s used to transform an existing “bad quality” or “destructive tendency”. Every “quality”, which has a behavior inherent in it, exists in a dual state of complementary opposites (sympathy and antipathy) as a positive or negative expression of the same quality of consciousness. Just as “hot and cold” are degrees of the same thing, and light and dark are degrees of the same thing, love and hate, fear and courage, humility and confidence, are all degrees of the same thing, and its opposite can be used to transform it by degrees. In order to begin practicing, start with smaller things or ideas that don’t produce a strong emotional charge or aren’t intense in nature, and are therefore easier to manage, and gradually work your way up to ideas that trigger you emotionally causing reactive behaviors.

Our state-of-mind (quality of consciousness) is created by 3 aspects that are always in-sync with each other. These three aspects are what we focus on, what we tell ourselves about what we’re focused on that makes it mean something, and what we’re doing with our body. Our physiology is a direct reflection of our state-of-mind as our quality of consciousness that we’re employing at any given moment. If you can’t control your attention and thoughts, you can learn to control your body and how you’re behaving instead. We can employ a quality by modeling the behavior associated with it. Just like when we were kids, we play acted and pretended to be “like” our favorite characters and role models, we utilize the same techniques as adults. Pretend like you’re an actor acting out a certain character within a specific role.

If you want to develop confidence, for example, find someone that you consider confident and watch and study them. What is it that they’re doing that makes them “confident”? What’s their posture like, their attitude, body language, and how do they hold themselves? How do they speak, the tone, speed or rate, and emphasis? What are their facial expressions, demeanor, and idiosyncrasies? How do they dress? Study them, elicit their strategy, and then imitate the same way of being. Practice until you feel comfortable with it and incorporate your own style into it. Then practice being that way in general. Practice it as a normal way of being in all areas of your life. Notice that when you change how you’re acting, that you experience yourself in new ways. You feel different and sense yourself in a different way. Step into the feeling and embrace it with a new level of awareness. Allow yourself to kind of fall in love with how your feeling and being. Get off on it. Allow yourself to feel empowered by it, not in an arrogant or conceited way, but in an expressive, uninhibited and expansive way. Notice the freedom it allows and new levels of self-expression that are very powerful in terms of not only the freedom you feel, but the response you get from others who are forming an impression of you and admiring you. Be an actor in your own life, and take it all in. After a while, it’ll become natural and normal.

In order to acquire a quality by practicing and becoming it in mind and body, we have to have a good enough idea of what that quality is like in terms of attitude, emotions, demeanor and behaviors so that we can practice being that way by imitating it. Don’t worry that you’ll be “copying somebody”, because the process of imitating is what allows your own style to come forth, you simply need a starting point as a kind of template for producing it. Once you begin practicing, you’ll come into yourself in terms of being that way, and you’ll produce your own unique version of it. We need a channel of expression in order to “find” our own style for doing things. Your style for “being” exists within you like your fingerprint or signature, and simply needs to be awakened and given a channel for outward expression, until you start feeling comfortable and natural being that way. Keep in mind, you always feel a bit (or a lot) awkward and out of place, or “not yourself” at first, because it’s new and you’re not used to it. But just keep practicing as if you’re an actor in the “play of your life”, and after awhile it’ll start feeling completely natural to you, and you’ll begin automatically “feeling” that way, and perceiving life from that perspective. All it takes is dedicated practice and a spirit of renewal and self-realization by bringing forth parts of yourself that up to this point in your life, you’ve never really experienced before!

Conscious Programming – “The Art of Self-Creation”

The conscious aspect of the mind has the ability to program the subconscious mind, yet we have to first realize that they actually speak (work by) different languages. The conscious mind is abstract and thinks in terms of verbal language as words that lack behavior as actualizing, whereas the subconscious mind is experiential and emotional in nature and speaks in terms of pictures and sensory images as life-like realities that mimic actual memories. The conscious mind programs the subconscious (body awareness) through the imagination as an inner vision that transforms an abstract idea into a conceptualized reality. The imagination as the mind’s eye takes a basic idea, and through the process of applying it to a specific situation or set of circumstances, reinterprets it by personalizing it. We imagine it “as if” we were actually experiencing it as a real life situation. This creates the idea as a living pattern equivalent to a memory, which the subconscious uses to produce behavior that “acts out” the same scenario as a real life experience.

 
By imagining the desired idea as a reality, we not only create a pattern for application, but also create it as a believable possibility that we simultaneously identify with through the enactment. This creates the desired reality as an inner reality that the subconscious superimposes on the outer reality, organizing and reinterpreting it accordingly. The mind constructs realities by how it composes ideas to give them meaning. The meaning we give an idea determines how we experience it. Meaning shapes experience. It takes the imagined reality as an actual experience, which integrates and incorporates it through an accumulative effect that modifies the current paradigm as a system of beliefs based on memory (living realities) as a unification of the physical with the spiritual that provides a new template for generating thematic realities as analogous correspondences. It creates experiences that are of the same nature as a form of theme.

We take an abstract idea as a universal theme, and create an inner reality as a template that produces a frequency that’s used to magnetize and organize the outer reality as being of a similar nature. It won’t be exactly the same as the inner imagining, because it can only use elements in the immediate environment that are of the same frequency and therefore lend themselves to telling the same type of story. The outer experience will be of the same nature and basic idea of the imagined reality based on what’s available in the immediate environment that can be used to orchestrate the experience as a congruent theme.

 
Ideas, as feeling experiences, represent a vibratory frequency that attracts what is of the same nature and therefore has the same inherent tendencies that can be used to express the same idea as a joint reality. Whatever is of a different frequency, likewise, is simultaneously repelled. We only “see” ourselves (what matches our paradigm) in others and our environment, even though many other possibilities coexist within the same space and time. What is of the same nature as us we not only notice and give attention to (it stands out), we simultaneously allow to enter into us (energetic sympathy), stimulating an inner reaction (resonance) to it as a result. This is what we refer to as chemistry that produces a natural interaction based on an affinity of sorts.

 
When we allow ideas to readily and willingly be introduced into our mind, and take hold by thinking about them, we are allowing ourselves to be “programmed” by others or an external source. We then become subject to it because it acts to “tune us” to the same vibratory frequency as a joint reality that we create inward using our own mind. We allow ourselves to be determined – created – by outside forces. This is the result of the subconscious and passive aspect of the mind as our animalistic (body) nature that can be readily trained and domesticated by outside influences that we align with and allow to control us. We are influenced by another mind that imposes a direct influence on us, dominates by introducing an active force as an idea that’s willingly accepted by our passive and receptive mind, that controls us by absorbing and commanding our will.

When we give our will to the service of another by conforming to them, they act to control us and determine our behavior, which also shapes our identity accordingly. We enter into a sympathetic relationship with them, and through suggestion that acts to modify and manipulate our inner reality, we respond to them in a very predictable way. They train us to behave in a certain way by how they interact with us. Through the emotional quality of their communication, which acts as the hook for seating ideas in the imagination, allowing them to take hold long enough to develop them into personal realities by thinking about them in a compulsive manner. They “give us” emotional thoughts that are theirs, and we adopt them and then act to develop them as our own. This forms the basis of what we refer to as the “group mind” which is ultimately a form of subliminal mind entrainment designed to train people to certain types of behavior that they mistaken for their own.

 
Once we understand how we use our mind to self-create by creating internal realities that become the living patterns for outer realities of the same nature, we can withdraw our mental and emotional power from the group mind, and use our imagination to self-create in unique and individual ways instead. We can program our own mind and body by creating inner experiences of our desired reality, then enhancing them with sensory details, while infusing them with very positive emotions that magnetize them by making them compelling. Positive attracts and grows, negative repels and diminishes. To “become” by growing ourselves, is achieved through positive and active means, while allowing our negative, self-sabotaging aspects to fall away and subside, because we no longer keep them alive in our imagination. Fill your mind constantly with what you desire to experience and how you want to feel as a result. Sense yourself in very desirable ways that will shape your identity accordingly and will form your character as the means of bringing ideas into physical form as experiences that are self-perpetuated and performed by you!

The Art of Becoming – “Developing Your Style”

There are two basic ways we “become”, either unconsciously by default as a product of our formative conditioning, or with awareness of who we want to be and by choice and free will. In order to “become” intentionally, we have to first realize what we have an affinity for, a pervading interest in, or a kind of curiosity around, then study it to find the qualities, characteristics and behaviors that will express that way of being. We have to create an ideal for ourselves that serves as a creative vision. A creative vision that has distinct qualities and characteristics as it’s fundamental nature or natural make-up. Then we embody those same qualities in ourselves, and practice being like that. We embody the same characteristics as ways of being and behaving as our ideal or chosen model. We create and reshape our persona by taking on qualities, employing certain postures, gestures, facial expressions, language patterns, etc.

In the adult world this is typically called modeling, in the education and spiritual realms it’s called mentoring, and when we were kids we called it pretending and make-believe. These are all basically describing the same process. This creative process best described as “pretending”, is the most natural way for consciously engaging in the act of self-creating by developing ourselves in a specific way based on who we want to be like, and what roles and type of characters we relate to and gravitate towards as a result. This tendency is what reveals our true inner nature, what we resonate with in terms of strongly relating to, what feelings we are attracted to, what we love and have a preference for, or what kind of person we most readily see ourselves as being that feels empowering.

We don’t develop ourselves through roles or abstract objective ideas. We develop ourselves through themes as attributes and qualities that when embodied and brought into expression by acting them out, give us a sense of ourselves that serves to develop our character. Our character as “how” we are, and what “kind” of person we are creates a predisposition that is ideal for certain roles and activities that provide the ideal means for further shaping our identity as conformity. As we create certain types of experiences, we sense ourselves in new ways which reshapes our identity by way of those experiences, and begin forming a consistent idea about ourselves that becomes our self-image or self-perception.

Example: As a young artist growing up with no cultural background, I was told that I couldn’t copy pictures, other people’s work or even other people’s style. No body provided me with any tutoring. I felt a complete lack of direction and had to develop my abilities within very limiting means and figure things out for myself. Learning was a tedious process of trial and error.

As soon as I went to college for art, the first thing I was told to do, was to start collecting and categorizing as many pictures as I could for visual resources, find another artist who’s work I felt extremely inspired by and compelled towards, and then research that artist, study their work . . . . and when I painted to try and paint just like them. This was a complete contradiction to what I had been taught up to this point.

So I did everything I was instructed to, and what I found was that for the first time I had a model or mentor to practice “being like” and as I tried to paint just like him, my own style began immediately emerging. It wasn’t exactly like the artist I studied under, though it was similar. I was then told that the reason I was attracted to that artist and their style for painting was because it was the same type of style that was inherent within me. By practicing being like him, it developed and brought out those same qualities and abilities in me. This was the first time I truly understood the power of mentoring and practicing the very style, traits and abilities that I wanted to develop in my self.

Professionalism: Adequacy verses Excellence – It’s all a Matter of Attitude!

What kind of an attitude do you take in regards to your own development and performance? Do you strive only to meet the requirements that are necessary in your life or profession? Or do you strive to be the very best at what you do? Do you set high standards for yourself, and then push yourself to meet those standards consistently by developing yourself according to them? Do you have an attitude of simply finding a skill that you feel you can easily do that’ll allow you to get a job? Then simply make do? Or do you feel a calling in your life towards a certain idea that you feel a natural passion about? A kind of inner drive that compels you towards an idea or activity that you “see yourself” doing while feeling like you’re in your “element”. It’s a role or process that you move into, embody, and become one with it as your life’s purpose.

Every one of us is born into this life with a soul-code that’s imbued with natural talents, gifts, special abilities, interests, tendencies, and a predisposition for creating our life by living a certain type of story. This internal nature acts as a guidance system that’s designed to lead us consistently in a certain direction through a connection with certain ideas that we feel an affinity towards. Yet, only some of us end up pursuing a life that’s an expression of “who” we really are, and end up for one reason or another, putting our dreams and interests aside to pursue instead a life that’s deemed more practical, or that will provide us with the security we need, or simply what we feel we can get in terms of what we qualify for. Many pursue the dream someone else has for them, instead of their own. Many have a life purpose that doesn’t really pertain to a profession, and don’t really place much significance on their work until they realize that it consumes what can be the greater part of their life, and indirectly affects every area of their personal life.

Excellence
Excellence is more of an attitude as a practice that you have for yourself, regardless of what you do. It’s an attitude that says, whatever I do, even the smallest things, I will do to the best of my ability. It’s a realization that it’s not so much “what” we do in life that matters, but “how” we do it. The same act undertaken with different attitudes produces very different results. It’s not what “happens to us” or what situation we find ourselves in that matters, but what we allow to “come through us” in response to it. We develop our character, not so much by the roles we play, but by who we become by way of those roles. The roles are simply a part of a larger pattern that provides us with an avenue for expression. When we take an attitude of being present in our life, giving our full attention to what’s happening, and interacting in a thoughtful and deliberate manner, we cultivate in us those qualities and tendencies. In this way, we cultivate an attitude of pursuing excellence in all areas of our life as a demonstration of “whom” and “how” we are

Life simply sets the stage and as the conditions and circumstances necessary to develop our character by way of them. The situations themselves are not what matters because they’re temporary evolving into continuous variations based on how we interact and influence them. If we only give our best under certain circumstances, while only doing what’s necessary under others, we create an imbalance, and fail to recognize that all situations simply provide one way, one means of expression that requires us to develop aspects of ourselves that are required to meet it. When we take an attitude of just doing what we need to get by, then we become that “type” of person, and don’t see it for the potential it offered, and what part of us would be required to rise to it, and do the best we can by way of it

Excellence is an attitude that we live our life by and bring to whatever we’re doing. It’s not a gift or talent that requires no effort on our part that we do naturally. It’s a drive as a kind of compelling force that lives within us as a kind of pride or moral standard that we hold ourselves to as a way of intentionally developing ourselves by way of those standards. It’s a quality of attention we employ and a creative discipline that guides our actions. It’s the ability to merge into whatever we’re doing through concentration, becoming one with it, and expressing through it “as it”. In this expression as our experience, we have a sense of ourselves, we identify with our experience, and it shapes “who” we are in relationship to it. Excellence is not an act; it’s a state-of-mind.

Creating a Vision Board – “Visual Mapping of a Desired Reality as a Series of Goals”

Many of us have heard that any goal that’s written down has a greater chance of being actualized than one that’s not. And while this is true, the way the mind naturally creates realities is through imagining them as actual experiences. By creating a reality out of a goal, we form an internal representation as a conceptualization of that goal as a possibility, which makes it believable, while giving us a mental template for perceiving it and acting it out. Psychologically speaking, we can only “do” what we can first imagine. We are only capable of behaviors that we can “see ourselves” doing. Imagining an idea is a prerequisite for creating it as an outer experience.

When we form a sensory reality of a goal “as if” it’s real and already happening, we give the subconscious mind (responsible for all behaviors) a “program” as a form of virtual memory which it uses in place of actual memory and acts to automatically create it. When we envision a reality, we are setting a pattern as a request that says . . . give me more of this. We program the mind to seek it out and recognize what is of the same nature and can be used to create a similar experience in our environment. At the same time, when envisioning a desired reality, we sense ourselves in that experience, and identify with it. This not only hones our vibratory frequency to that reality as a state-of-mind, but also programs the mind to seek it out through a form of resonance. It magnetizes the idea internally as a guidance system that moves us towards its fulfillment, and draws the elements of its fulfillment to us.

Anytime we create an internal reality around an idea, we form a dynamic series of associations to that idea as a variety of experiences inherent in the potential the idea holds for us, that causes us to recognize ideas of the same nature, though they may appear different than we imagined, and can spawn a series of coincidences that when followed or investigated, form a pathway for creating more of the same type of experiences. You want to vary how you imagine a goal as a reality to ensure that you don’t get stuck on only one possibility for how it could show up. You want to release any attachments you have to needing it to be something specific, but rather concentrate on the feeling the idea represents, and allow a chain of association to arise out of it as a reality. Any formulated experience is based on the “feeling” it represents and has to come by way of whatever is available in your immediate environment as a way of manifesting in your everyday life. How it shows up will be based on the elements in near proximity to you that are of the same nature and can be used to co-create the same type of experience. Though it may vary in appearance, the feeling it gives you will be the same. If you get set on it needing to show up or appear in a specific way, you may miss it when it actually comes as a variation.

When setting a goal of any kind, notice the feeling associated with that goal, what the goal represents in terms of the type of experience it will give you, and then allow realities as possibilities to naturally emerge as a free-flowing chain of association that amplifies the feeling by creating more of it. Then, when the feeling is amplified, become aware of how it feels in your body, concentrate on it and seat it. This feeling as a distinct movement in your body that acts as a stimulus is not only your beacon, but also your homing device. It’s your means of recognizing in your environment what’s of the same nature and acts to stimulate you with that same feeling, which will lend itself naturally to co-create experiences that will express and give you more of that same feeling. The feeling (vibratory frequency) is the common denominator. The inner realities as images that invoke specific feelings are simply potentials of that feeling that help you recognize the idea in it’s various forms and as clothed in many different ways, making it appear different. An internal feeling creates a certain type of experience as a living reality in the external world.

As a general rule of thumb, whatever your vision as a goal of some kind is, should never involve other people, or require them to be apart of it in order to manifest it as a reality. The accomplishment of all goals should lie exclusively within your power to create. Because a goal of any kind ultimately represents a desired experience of some sort as a feeling, if you dream of having a certain type of experience with a specific person, and the true reality is that the experience they’ll bring you will be quite different than you imagine, then they are not of the same vibration and do not represent the fulfillment of your desire. You won’t be able to attract them with your vision. They won’t have a “role” in acting out the same type of reality with you. Instead, concentrate intensely on the feelings of the desired reality, and be as open as possible to whatever form it will come in. Release attachments to needing it to show up in only one form, and be open to completely new and often surprising alternatives.

To form a vision board, create an over-all plan for the coming year, and break that plan down into a series of goals as a step-by-step process necessary to create the over-all goal as a desired reality. Imagine the goals as experiences, and what image symbolizes or represents it, or what words or sayings are associated with it. Find pictures, words, sayings, or objects that symbolize all the goals necessary to create the ultimate outcome, and arrange them in an artistic and pleasing way on a piece of poster board or foam core. Then use it as a visual meditation, by imaging the ideas associated to the pictures, or by forming visions from the words and sayings. Whatever is on your board acts as the stimulus for a series of realities around the actualization of your goal as if you are experiencing it. As you meditate, form and associate very positive emotions around and towards your vision. Fall in love with it. As you imagine it as real and happening, stimulating very positive emotions in response to it, infuse it with love and a deep sense of gratitude and give thanks to the Universe for making it possible. Make this a regular, if not daily practice.
